General

Does it cost anything to use Smart Loan Expert?
In almost every case there's no fee for our expertise - we're paid by the lender you choose. We'll always tell you upfront if any exception applies to your scenario.
How many lenders do you compare?
We have access to 35+ Australian lenders, including the big four banks plus specialist and non-bank lenders. We compare hundreds of products to shortlist the right loan for your goals.
Which cities do you service?
We help borrowers across Australia, with dedicated First Home Buyer and Refinance pages for Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane - each tailored to that state's grants and policies.
Will an enquiry affect my credit score?
No. Our initial loan health check and enquiry don't affect your credit score. A formal application involves a credit check, but only once you're comfortable and ready to proceed.

First Home Buyers

How much deposit do I need to buy my first home?
It depends on the lender and your situation. Many first home buyers get in with as little as 5%, and some government schemes let you buy with a smaller deposit while avoiding Lenders Mortgage Insurance.
Am I eligible for the First Home Owner Grant?
Eligibility depends on factors like whether you're buying or building a new home, the property value, and residency. Criteria are set by your state government and change over time - we confirm the current rules and lodge the grant for you.
How long does pre-approval take?
Timeframes vary by lender and how quickly documents come together, but we work to make it fast. Getting pre-approved early means you can make offers with confidence.

Refinancing

How do I know if refinancing is worth it?
It depends on your current rate, balance, features and any exit costs. A free loan health check compares your loan against the market and shows whether switching stacks up for you.
Are there costs involved in refinancing?
There can be discharge or government fees, and some lenders offer incentives that offset them. We factor every cost into the comparison so you see the true net benefit before deciding.
Can I access equity when I refinance?
Often, yes. If your home has grown in value you may be able to release equity for renovations, investing or other goals, subject to lender policy and your borrowing capacity.
